Located in a small town called Garamchashma (hot springs). The town is about 40 kilometres to the west from Chitral city, and 30 km from the Afghan border. The road from Chitral city is in most part a stony-dirt track and takes by jeep about two and half hours. The town lies in an attractive looking valley and is surrounded by other villages in this valley and side valleys. The valley is said to be largely self-sufficient in food and one observes many apricot, apple, mulberry and walnut trees.

The school (co-educational and English-medium) was set up in 1993 on the initiative of the local community. Donations were raised from foreign missions in Islamabad, Pakistan government and people of the area. The school building was constructed by the local community. The Islamabad office of the VSO was approached and as a result two experienced teachers (husband and wife) from England came to help in the establishment of the school.

The school is managed by a board of governors whose members are elected by the local community. It serves Garamchashma and surrounding villages. As no public transport is available, children from other villages walk – some for miles - to the school. The building is neat and well looked after and gives a pleasing impression. Classrooms have desks and chairs; walls are decorated with maps, pictures made by pupils, progress charts, pupil group photographs, etc. There is a well-stocked library, a ‘resources room’ and an impressive laboratory.
